Christie Repository Highlights: World Lymphoma Day

This will hopefully be part of a series of blog posts highlighting the resources listed in the treasure trove that is the Christie Repository.

The Christie Repository is an open repository of research outputs published by members of Christie staff, it currently contains listings for over 7000 peer-reviewed articles, reviews and selected publications from 1933 onwards. Every month, library staff add more to the repository. The repository is a great resource for both internal and external users as it is highlights the research taking place at The Christie.

World Lymphoma Day aims to “help spread awareness about lymphomas” and as such, we have decided to highlight some of the articles openly available in the repository concerning this research topic.

A quick search of the repository reveals that there are currently 475 articles listed in our repository which contain “lymphoma” in the abstract. We also have an advanced search facility on the repository which allows you to refine your search.

lymphoma

Here are some links to some of the most current articles listed in the repository. Please note you will need to log in with your OpenAthens to be able to download full text publications which are linked out to PubMed:

Brentuximab vedotin in relapsed/refractory Hodgkin lymphoma: An updated review of published data from the named patient program.

Impact of pretransplantation (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography on survival outcomes after T cell-depleted allogeneic transplantation for Hodgkin lymphoma.

Brain metastases from non-small cell lung cancer: radiation therapy in the era of targeted therapies

Cancer Treatment with Anti-PD-1/PD-L1 Agents: Is PD-L1 Expression a Biomarker for Patient Selection?

Patient-reported outcomes of brentuximab vedotin in Hodgkin lymphoma and anaplastic large-cell lymphoma.

The library also has a wide variety of resources on the subject of Lymphoma, so get in touch with any specific queries.

Getting started with resources from Mark Allen Health

Christie staff now have access to the range of resources available at Mark Allen Health. We have a handy link to their website on our page on the intranet as you can see below, but if you are reading this from a work computer you can also click this link.

Remember, we have a temporary trial of Mark Allen Health, so please let us know if you think we should extend our subscription beyond November 2016 by contacting us at the library.

webpage2

That link will take you to a page which requests your NHS OpenAthens log on. Please get in touch with us if you have any queries about OpenAthens, registering is a simple process and can be done from the link on the left-hand menu of our site on the intranet as pictured above.

Once logged in with NHS OpenAthens, the homepage gives you handy links to all of the journals available, if you know which journal or article you need to find. If not, you can perform a search in the box on the top right hand corner.

mag2

Here shows what comes up when you use the search box, a simple keyword of oncology brings up hundreds of articles but brings up the opportunity to filter down results.

mag1

Clicking on the article you would like to take a closer look at, gives you an abstract and links to downloadable PDFs.

If you have more in-depth questions about the resources available on Mark Allen Health, or any other literature or database searches, get in touch with us, or check out our training sessions available to Christie Staff on the intranet HERE.

Getting the most out of the Cochrane Library

Capture
This Cochrane Review was published in July 2016

The Cochrane Library is a collection of databases that contain high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision making. Cochrane Systematic Reviews represent the highest level of evidence on which to base clinical treatment decisions, often describes as the gold standard of evidence.  The Library is a collection of 6 databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence and a 7th that provides information about Cochrane groups.

As well as using the databases, you can get involved.  The Cochrane Collaboration is a global independent network of researchers, professionals, patients, carers and people interested in health.

Highlights!

***  Cochrane Clinical Answers now available freely to practitioners and professionals in the UK.  They are designed to be actionable and to inform decision making at the point of care. Each Cochrane Clinical Answer contains a clinical question, a short answer, and an opportunity to ‘drill down’ to the evidence from relevant Cochrane reviews. The evidence is displayed in a user friendly format, mixing narrative, numbers and graphics. e.g. there are, currently, 113 cancer questions with answers.   Learn how to use them

***   Why not attend one of our training sessions on Evidence Based Medicine – Cochrane Library.  Check out our intranet site.  The training tab is on the left hand side.  We can also provide one to one sessions if the timing of the group sessions are not suitable

***  Special collections e.g. World NO Tobacco Day

***  Browse by topic e.g. Cancer which is then further subdivided

***  The Cochrane Journal Club is aimed at trainees, researchers and practitioners alike.  Each Cochrane Journal Club covers a single review of special interest, selected from the new and updated reviews published in the Cochrane Library

***  There are 100’s of Cochrane Podcasts too!

Hopefully this brief guide to the Cochrane Library has wetted your appetite to explore it more and remember we regularly tweet Cochrane Systematic Reviews @christielibrary
