On 31st March 2022 HDAS will be closing due to accessibility requirements and therefore will no longer be available.
HDAS would have required a complete rebuild to meet all accessibility requirements and achieve compliance with the 2018 Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations. NICE and Health Education England (HEE), as partners in the delivery of knowledge and library infrastructure for the NHS in England, carried out a review of the options and of the other search services that are available to novice and expert users. As a result of this review, NICE and the HEE reached the conclusion that there was not a viable strategic or economic case to re-build HDAS.
In place of HDAS we will be using database provider interfaces: OVID, EBSCO or ProQuest, Any searches or alerts set up on HDAS will need to be transferred over to these. We have created a HIVE page containing information, guides, and useful links on how to get started with the database provider interfaces: OVID, EBSCO and ProQuest.
In summary
From 1st April 2022 onwards:
- You will not be able to access or use HDAS
- Any alerts saved in HDAS will stop running and stop sending results to you
- All search strategies and search results saved in HDAS will be deleted
- You will only be able to perform advanced searches on the bibliographic databases (such as Medline and CINAHL) using the database provider interfaces run by OVID, EBSCO, and ProQuest
So that you can prepare for the closure please visit the NICE HDAS closure page for information on the steps you need to take to export saved searches from HDAS as well as the interfaces that you can now use to search the literature. We have also added this information to our local Christie HDAS Closure Information HIVE page as well as creating HIVE pages for each of the three platforms:
- Click here to view the OVID HIVE help page
- Click here to view the EBSCO HIVE help page
- Click here to view the ProQuest HIVE help page
Additionally, we have begun to provide Literature Search training sessions on these provider interfaces. You can find dates of all of our scheduled training sessions on our HIVE ‘Training’ page.
If you need further help moving your saved searches and alerts from HDAS to provider interfaces we have created a guide for each of the platforms: OVID, EBSCO, ProQuest. Resources have also been gathered by HEE with guides on using the provider interfaces.
For each of these platforms you will need both an active Christie OpenAthens account and a local account to each platform. (If you don’t have an OpenAthens account you can register for one here.) Once you have logged in to them with your OpenAthens username and password you will need to create local accounts to save your searches and alerts:
- OVID (select ‘OpenAthens | Institutional’) – login guide
- EBSCO (select ‘OpenAthens Login’) – login guide
- ProQuest (select ‘Use OpenAthens Login’) – login guide
As a part of this change, HEE have implemented a new national search interface. The local Christie search page will link you to the resources we subscribe to, including journals and e-books, as well as the database provider interfaces (OVID, EBSCO, ProQuest, etc.). You can find The Christie Knowledge and Library Hub here.
The library is here to help with this transition so please contact us either at the-christie.library@nhs.net or telephone 0161 446 3452 if you have any questions or need some assistance. Alternatively you can contact the team at NICE at nice@nice.org.uk.
