When patient are very poorly they move less and are at risk of developing pressure sores or other complications of being immobile. We are lucky enough to have sophisticated electric profiling beds and excellent pressure relieving mattresses which all patient go on. This in addition to regular re-positioning and skin checks helps reduce these complications. The mattresses have alternating pressure cells which means that the patient does not have constant pressure on their skin. Some of the beds in addition have other functions such as being able to rotate / percuss and vibrate. This helps with severe pulmonary problems and is known as kinetic therapy.
