Coronavirus action plan
The Department of Health and Social Care has published Coronavirus action plan. This document sets out what the UK as a whole has done – and plans to do – to tackle the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, based on experience dealing with other infectious diseases and influenza pandemic preparedness work. The exact response to COVID-19 will be tailored to the nature, scale and location of the threat in the UK, as understanding of it develops.

Reducing long hospital stays
NHS England and NHS Improvement have published Reducing long stays: action card for social care professionals. This action card highlights the most important things that social care professionals should be doing each day to reduce long hospital stays.
Medicines and Medical Devices Bill
The Department of Health and Social Care has published ten factsheets providing additional information about the Medicines and Medical Devices Bill.
Values Week
Health Education England has launched this year’s Values Week which will run from 29 June to 5 July 2020. The week offers the opportunity for healthcare organisations and their staff to showcase and celebrate what values are important to them, and how these result in the delivery of excellent patient care. HEE has published an online toolkit to support organisations plan activities for the week.

NHS England and NHS Improvement have published the following service specifications:
- Specialised complex surgery for urinary incontinence and vaginal and uterine prolapse (16 years and above)
- Specialised complex gynaecology/female urology: Genito-urinary tract fistulae (girls and women aged 16 years and above)
- Specialised maternity care for patients (child bearing age) diagnosed with abnormally invasive placenta

Public health trends
QualityWatch has been looking at trends in public health services. This national-level data present a broad overview of the health of the population and cover the following five areas: obesity; smoking; substance misuse (drugs and alcohol); sexual and reproductive health; and immunisation.
Opt-out organ donation
The Department of Health and Social Care has published Organs and tissues to be excluded from the op-out organ donation system: government response. This document sets out the Government’s response to a consultation on the organs and tissues that should be excluded from the new ‘opt-out’ organ donation system. The response sets out the list of organs, tissues and cells that will need a person’s express consent before being donated.

Submission of Friends and Family Test data
NHS England has published revised guidance for the submission of the Friends and Family Test data from 1 April 2020. Guidance has been published for acute services, community and mental health services, general practice, dental practice and ambulance services.
PROM feasibility: cataract surgery
The Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership has published Patient Reported Outcomes Measures in Cataract Surgery: The feasibility of electronically auditing self-reported Outcomes using Cat-PROM5. This feasibility study demonstrates that inclusion of the patient’s voice in the patient pathway is feasible in routine electronic medical record based NHS cataract care and that extraction and analysis of the resulting data demonstrates the self-reported benefits reported by patients receiving cataract surgery.
Long term ventilation for young people
The National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death has published Balancing the pressures: a review of the quality of care provided to children and young people aged 0-24 years who were receiving long-term ventilation. This report highlights the quality of care of people aged 0-24 receiving long-term ventilation (LTV). It presents the opinions of service users, parent carers as well as healthcare professionals who have provided peer review of clinical cases, participated in focused interviews and responded to online questionnaires about LTV services they receive or provide. It is accompanied by a commissioner’s guide.
NHS Rightcare epilepsy toolkit
NHS Rightcare has published Rightcare: epilepsy toolkit; optimising a system for people living with epilepsy. This toolkit provides a focus for improving local health systems, tailored to the needs of the epilepsy population. It contains practical advice and guidance on how to address the epilepsy-related challenges.
Workforce Race Equality Standard
NHS England and NHS Improvement have published NHS Workforce Race Equality Standard: 2019 data analysis report for NHS Trusts. This fifth report measures the experience and opportunities of white and BME people working in the NHS.
