How work affects health
The Health Foundation has published What the quality of work means for our health. This long read presents new analysis exploring changes in the labour market and what they mean for health inequalities. The research shows that 36% of UK employees report having a low-quality job and that people in low-quality jobs are much more likely to have poor health and twice as likely to report their health is not good. This paper argues that to improve health, quality of work needs to be addressed.
Capital investment
NHS Providers has published Rebuilding our NHS: why it’s time to invest. This report sets out the scale of the task required to rebuild and equip the NHS to make it fit for the 21st century. It includes findings from a survey of NHS leaders, carried out last summer. 97% of leaders were worried that their organisation’s requirement for capital investment would not be met. 82% said there was a medium or high risk to patient safety.
Operational and Planning Contracting Guidance 2020/21
NHS England and NHS Improvement have published NHS Operational Planning and Contracting Guidance 2020/21. This guidance covers system planning, full operational plan requirements, details of workforce transformation requirements, the financial settlement and the process and timescales around the submission of plans that the NHS must plan to do during 2020/21.

Safety in health and social care
QualityWatch has published an indicator update on Safety in health and social care. It has been monitoring how the safety of health and social care has been changing over time with some measures showing an improvement, whilst other measures have not.
Healthwatch England annual report
Healthwatch England has published Guided by you: Healthwatch England annual report 2018-19. This annual report to Parliament summarises the work of Healthwatch England between 2018 and 2019.
Primary Care Networks: service specifications engagement
NHS England and NHS Improvement have published Network Contract DES – Engagement on Draft Outline Service Specifications; Summary Report. This report summarises the feedback received from general practice and the wider health and care system on the draft outline Network contract DES service specifications. The feedback showed in-principle support for the aspirations of the individual services but there were also concerns which included the workforce implications and the investment general practice was being asked to make in new workforce roles; the level of resource available to support delivery; the level of specificity and length of the specifications and the aggregate effect of introducing all five services from April 2020.
Accountability in Integrated Care Systems
The NHS Confederation and Solace have published Delivering together: developing effective accountability in integrated care systems. This paper summarises the views of senior leaders from the NHS and local government on how they would like system accountability to develop.
CCG core services 2020/21: additional allocation
NHS England has published Additional allocation for CCG core services 2020-21. This document sets out the additional recurrent allocations for CCG core services which reflect the impact of the 2020/21 National Tariff, compared to the assumptions made in initial published allocations.
Coronavirus public information campaign
The Department of Health and Social Care has launched a UK-wide public information campaign to advise the public on how to slow the spread of coronavirus and reduce the impact on NHS services. HM Government and NHS-branded information will appear in radio and print media, as well as social media.
Indoor air quality
The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and Royal College of Physicians have published The inside story: health effects of indoor air quality on children and young people. This report presents evidence linking indoor air pollution to a range of childhood health problems including asthma, wheezing, conjunctivitis, dermatitis and eczema. It makes recommendations for improving indoor air quality.
Volunteer Learning Passport Programme
Health Education England has added new content to the Volunteer Learning Passport e-learning programme. The programme aims to enable safe volunteering and to build community capacity to complement public services, which is a key strategy for improving health and wellbeing.
