Hospice and palliative care funding allocations
The Department of Health and Social Care has published hospice and palliative care funding allocations for CCGs: 2019 to 2020.
Occupational health services
NHS Employers has updated the following guidance documents:
- Your occupational health service: guidance – supports occupational health leaders, HR directors and boards to understand what occupational health (OH) services should be delivering for their organisations.
- Commissioning occupational health services – supports commissioners in procuring occupational health services.
Population Wellbeing Portal
Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare (HEE e-LfH) has launched a survey for its Population Wellbeing Portal which offers free access to education, training and professional development resources to help deliver improvements in public health and prevention. HEE e-LfH is looking for feedback from users of the portal to help support the development of the resource. The survey closes on 20 November 2019.
NICE consultations
- Suspected cancer: recognition and referral: surveillance consultation. Closing date for comments: 14 November 2019.
- Self-harm in over 8s: management and preventing recurrence: draft scope consultation. Closing date for comments: 27 November 2019.
- Asthma: diagnosis, monitoring and chronic asthma management: draft guidance consultation. Closing date for comments: 27 November 2019.
Quality of care for older people
QualityWatch has updated a group of indicators that particularly relate to older people in order to provide an overview of how older people’s quality of care has changed over time. The indicators cover: flu vaccination coverage, injuries due to falls, supporting older people’s recovery after illness or injury, care home bed availability, admission to care homes, delayed transfers of care, emergency readmissions and dying at home
Safeguarding children
The National Children’s Bureau has published Safeguarding early adopters: developing the learning on multi-agency safeguarding arrangements. This report disseminates the learning from 17 projects across the country which developed new and innovative approaches to multi-agency child safeguarding arrangements. It will be of use to those areas where multi-agency arrangements for safeguarding are currently being rolled out.
Vaccinations and Immunisations Review
NHS England has published Interim findings of the Vaccinations and Immunisations Review – September 2019. This interim report of the review focuses on available data on uptake of vaccines and current GP contractual arrangements including: the current structure of general practice payments; incentive schemes including the childhood target incentive scheme; and call and re-call requirements and opportunistic vaccination. The Review will continue for the remainder of the year and will now consider travel vaccinations; outbreaks and catch up programmes; and further areas for improvement.
Independent cosmetic surgery services
The Care Quality Commission has written to all independent cosmetic surgery providers highlighting emerging concerns from inspections of 65 services providing cosmetic surgery and/or hair transplant surgery. It clarifies the standards of patient care that the CQC expect and patients deserve and reminds providers of their responsibility to deliver safe and effective services.
NICE Bites: cellulitis
The North West Medicines Information Service has published Cellulitis and erysipelas: antimicrobial prescribing. This document provides a summary of key prescribing points taken from NICE guidance (NG141) which sets out an antimicrobial prescribing strategy for adults, young people, children and babies aged 72 hours and over with cellulitis and erysipelas.
Criteria-led discharge
NHS England and NHS Improvement have published A manager’s guide to criteria-led discharge. This guide to criteria-led discharge (CLD) supports managers to implement, sustain and spread CLD, as well as providing context and evidence around the process.
National Academy for Social Prescribing
The Health and Social Care Secretary has announced his ambition for every patient in the country to have access to social prescribing schemes on the NHS as readily as they do medical care. The National Academy for Social Prescribing will work to standardise the quality and range of social prescribing available to patients across the country.
