Cancer screening programmes review: interim report
NHS England has published Independent review of national screening programmes in England: interim report of emerging findings. This interim report sets out the emerging findings of Professor Sir Mike Richards review of national screening programmes. Although this report sets out preliminary findings it makes two clear recommendations: the halting of the decline in the proportion of eligible women taking up breast and cervical screening and that national stakeholders must take action now to ensure IT systems for GP registrations and screening are fit for purpose. The final report and recommendations will be published later this year.
Sustainable Improvement Impact Framework
NHS England has published Sustainable Improvement Impact Framework. This framework has been developed to systematically capture the impact of large scale change programmes within NHS England. The Impact Framework has been developed based on approaches used by others in the field of developmental evaluation, tailored to support improvement work in complex systems.
Community Currency Development Project
NHS England has published A new approach to supporting community healthcare funding testing and guidance. This document sets out the process for testing the draft currencies developed as part of the Community Currency Development Project. It provides a narrative of the currency development work completed to date, describes each currency in detail, and explains the process that will be followed to test these currencies
Recognising and responding to critically unwell patients
The Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch has published Investigation into recognising and responding to critically unwell patients. The report recommends tackling the recognition and response to deteriorating patients with the same national approach driving improvement in identifying and treating sepsis. The report includes safety recommendations to The Royal College of Physicians and NHS England/NHS Improvement.
Nursing Careers Resource
The Royal College of Nursing and Health Education England have launched the Nursing Careers Resource to help registered nurses and the clinical support workforce plan their health careers effectively. The website provides a range of ideas about the varying roles available.
NHS property: guidance for NHS trusts and foundation trusts on requesting transfers of estate in the ownership of NHS property companies – Department of Health and Social Care
This guidance allows NHS trusts and foundation trusts to apply for the transfer of ownership of properties on their estate. This is where property on a trust’s estate belongs to NHS Property Services and community health partnerships. The change recognises that, in many cases, NHS trusts are best placed to judge how to use their estate to benefit the local community.
Social care: free at the point of need – the case for free personal care in England –
Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR)
This paper sets out new research and policy proposals which aim to address the growing crisis in social care. Its recommendations aim to improve the efficiency of health and social care services in England by joining up health and social care policy and delivering a more preventative model of care. They also aim to advance the physical and mental health of those with social care needs by ensuring that everyone – regardless of means – receives adequate and appropriate support.
