Perioperative medicine in integrated care systems
The Royal College of Anaesthetists has published A teachable moment: delivering perioperative medicine in integrated care systems. This document showcases a number of innovative and award-winning programmes in hospitals across England that are improving patient care before, during and after surgery. The report focuses on the first-wave of 10 ICSs across England, highlighting how ICSs can facilitate the wider adoption of perioperative pathways of care.

Blueprints – digital innovation
NHS England has announced the first batch of schemes which allow hospitals to implement improvements quicker and more easily to transform care and improve services for patients and staff. The blueprints have been created by hospitals on NHS England’s Global Digital Exemplar programme which is providing funding to 43 acute, mental health and ambulance trusts to help them digitise.

The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute has published Involving NHS staff in research. This document explores why and how NHS staff contribute to research, the factors that enable engagement, the impact of engagement on research processes and outcomes, and the implications for future engagement efforts.
NHS workforce
The Health Foundation has published A critical moment: NHS staffing, trends, retention and attrition. This is the third annual report analysing the staff profile and trends in the NHS workforce in England in 2018. It largely confirms the trends identified in the 2016 and 2017 reports, and shows an ongoing deterioration for some key staff groups. This report concludes with a brief assessment of ‘where next’ in terms of health workforce policy and planning in England, in the context of ongoing NHS reforms.
NHS login pilot
NHS Digital has announced the launch of the NHS login pilot which aims to build a process to allow partner services to connect and use NHS login. NHS login is designed to make it easier and quicker for patients to see personal health information online. It has already been tested with 3,400 patients as part of the NHS App pilot.
