NICEimpact maternity
NICE has published NICEimpact maternity (pdf). This report reviews how NICE recommendations for evidence-based and cost-effective maternity care are being implemented in the healthcare system to improve outcomes. This report highlights some positive progress in the uptake of NICE recommendations for safe and personalised maternity care, however, in some areas there is still room for improvement.
Advanced care planning
Macmillan has published Missed opportunities: advance care planning report. This report examines the role of advanced care planning and explores the barriers to its implementation as identified by people with incurable cancer and health and social care professionals. It also examines opportunities for change and sets out responsibilities of governments and policy makers.
Emergency hospital admissions
The Health Foundation has published Emergency hospital admissions in England: which may be avoidable and how? This briefing provides an overview of trends in emergency admissions over the past decade and a summary of the best evidence behind some of the interventions being deployed to reduce them.
Support for people with dementia
The Department of Health and Social Care has published After diagnosis of dementia: what to expect from health and social care services. This document is for anyone diagnosed with dementia and the people who care for them. It has details about what support they should get and includes information about what is in a care plan; how health care and social care services can help; support available to family and friends who are carers; and how to take part in research.
Workforce Health and Wellbeing Framework
NHS Employers, NHS England and NHS Improvement have launched a Workforce Health and Wellbeing Framework. This framework brings together best practice, research and insights to help NHS organisations improve staff health and wellbeing. A diagnostic tool has also been created to support implementation of the framework and help organisations identify key areas of focus when planning or improving a health and wellbeing programme.
State of the provider sector: community services
NHS Providers has published Community services: taking centre stage: the state of the provider sector. This is the third report in the series looking at the state of the NHS provider sector. This latest assessment provides a commentary on how the community services provider sector is performing, the challenges that community service providers are facing, and the solutions that will enable success on the journey to a longer term funding settlement.
Data sharing in general practice
The Health Foundation has published Sharing to improve: four case studies of data sharing in general practice. The four case studies in this briefing offer promising early indications that collaborative data sharing has potential to make a meaningful contribution to improving the quality of care. Insights from these case studies show different methods of using data to improve care, and share practical learning from groups already experimenting with these efforts.
Health and wellbeing of lesbian and bisexual women
Public Health England has published Improving the health and wellbeing of lesbian and bisexual women and other women who have sex with women. This report provides an overview of the evidence of health inequalities affecting lesbian and bisexual women and other women who have sex with women (LBWSW). It highlights a range of opportunities for action across the breadth of the public health system to improve the health of these women and reduce their burden of disease.

This document is an interactive, quick reference tool summarising the CCG guidance on conditions for which over the counter items should not routinely be prescribed in primary care.
Safeguarding
NHS England has published Safeguarding: annual update 2018. This report identifies the progress and accomplishments made within safeguarding across the health sector since March 2017 and provides details regarding the key safeguarding priorities for the year ahead.
Counter fraud guidance
The Department of Health and Social Care has published Accessing and using documents to counter fraud in the NHS: code of practice. This document provides best practice guidance for government officials on getting access to NHS documents and using them to counter fraud in the health service. It is also of relevance to anyone in the NHS who may be requested to produce documents.
Sharing patient data: patient views
Healthwatch has published How do people feel about their data being shared by the NHS? This briefing presents the results from a poll of over 2000 people to find out their views and concerns on sharing their data. Nearly three quarters of people said they would be happy for the NHS to use their patient data to improve the healthcare treatment of others and just over three quarters of people are confident in the ability of the NHS to protect their patient data.

NHS Improvement has published Making data count. This guide is designed to encourage analysts and decision-makers to work together to ensure the most relevant data is presented in the most effective way.
