NHS England has published Leading change, adding value: learning tool to support all nursing, midwifery and care staff. This document provides details of the Leading Change, Adding Value (LCAV) framework and supports all nursing, midwifery and care staff to identify and address unwarranted variation in practice – recognising unequal standards of care and changing them.
Operational workforce planning: a self-assessment tool – NHS Improvement
Creating an effective workforce requires an evidence-based workforce plan, integrated with finance, activity and performance plans, and directly involves leaders and managers of the service. Working with workforce planners and trusts, we have created a tool that details the characteristics and processes of effective workforce planning. It enables self-assessment against typical workforce planning requirements, complements and signposts to existing workforce planning resources and provides transparency on how we review workforce plans.
The learning disabilities mortality review: annual report 2017 – Health Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP)
The Learning Disabilities Mortality Review programme was established to support local areas to review the deaths of people with learning disabilities, identify learning from those deaths, and take forward the learning into service improvement initiatives. This annual report summarises the learning and recommendation from 103 reviews of deaths of people with learning disabilities during 2017.
Freedom to Speak Up: guidance for NHS trust and NHS foundation trust boards – NHS Improvement
Effective speaking up arrangements protect patients and improve the experience of NHS workers. This guidance contributes to the need, set out by Sir Robert Francis in his Freedom to Speak Up review, to develop a more open and supportive culture that encourages staff to speak up about any issues of patient care, quality or safety. The accompanying self-review tool supports the standards laid out in the guidance. It supports trusts’ review around the eight key lines of enquiry set out in the well-led framework.
Supporting research in the NHS: consultation – NHS England
In November 2017, NHS England set out proposals for how they would work with the Department of Health and the Health Research Authority to implement changes to simplify NHS research proposals. A summary of responses received to the consultation has now been published and is accompanied by details of 12 agreed actions to support and apply research in the NHS.
HR professional development strategy
NHS Employers has published NHS HR professional development strategy stocktake report. The report evaluates the outcomes of the Aspirant Director of Workforce Career Development Programme. The work was undertaken by NHS Employers to promote NHS HR, social media activities and regional activities that are taking place within HR Director networks to support NHS HR professional development.
