Survey: Third of CCGs consider limiting access amid cash squeeze – Health Service Journal
More than a third of clinical commissioning groups are considering introducing limits on access or eligibility for services this year amid huge financial pressures, the latest HSJ survey of CCG leaders suggests. The latest barometer questionnaire asked whether their organisations were considering new limits on services during 2015-16 for financial reasons. Thirty-nine per cent of respondents said yes, 57 per cent said no and 4 per cent did not know.

Treasury considering health, care and welfare budget link – Health Service Journal
The Treasury is undertaking a quick turnaround project in the run up to the general election examining the potential savings from bringing together spending on health, social care and some welfare payments. The “HMT health and social care cost pilot” will also examine the financial value of non-state contributions from unpaid carers and the third sector.

Royal college: Changing surgical pathways could save money and lives – Health Service Journal
Hospitals could reduce length of stay and improve patient outcomes if they reimagine the way more than 10 million patients a year undergo surgery in the NHS. The Royal College of Anaesthetists has urged NHS leaders to develop what it calls a perioperative medicine approach to surgery, where clinicians consider not just the surgery but wider health factors that can affect a patient’s long term recovery.

GPs sign access and training deal with CCG – Health Service Journal
GPs in Barnsley have universally signed up to a contract with their local clinical commissioning group requiring them to increase access to services and train their staff. Barnsley CCG’s “practice delivery agreement” has been signed by all of the town’s 36 GP practices, covering a population of 240,000.
