NICE Quality Standard: Head injury
NICE has published a new Quality Standard for Head injury (QS74). NICE quality standards describe high-priority areas for quality improvement in a defined care or service area. Each standard consists of a prioritised set of specific, concise and measurable statements. They draw on existing guidance, which provides an underpinning, comprehensive set of recommendations, and are designed to support the measurement of improvement. This quality standard covers assessment, early management and rehabilitation following head injury in children, young people and adults.

Implementing The ‘Responsible Consultant/Clinician’ And ‘Named Nurse’ In Your NHS Foundation Trust – Monitor
One of the recommendations of the Francis Report and the government’s response was that every hospital patient should have the name of the consultant and nurse responsible for their care above their bed: the ‘responsible consultant/clinician’ and ‘named nurse’. This letter to all foundation trust medical and nursing directors outline details of the implementation of the ‘responsible consultant/clinician’ and ‘named nurse’ recommendation. Each NHS trust has been asked to provide the relevant information on the implementation of these recommendations.
NHS providers strategy toolkit
Monitor has published a toolkit to support all NHS providers in developing clear and well-thought-out strategies. Strategy development: a toolkit for NHS providers has been developed with five NHS foundation trust ‘test sites’ to support all FTs – acute, community, mental health and ambulance trusts – in developing sound strategies.
Final Care Act guidance published
The Department of Health has published a suite of updated guidance in relation to the Care Act following a government consultation on draft regulations and guidance on the care and support reforms in the Care Act 2014 which come into effect in April 2015. The consultation received over 4,000 responses from many different sources. The Department of Health has updated Care Act factsheets in light of the government response to the consultation on regulations and guidance. The changes include clarifying the guidance on adult safeguarding and revising the eligibility criteria to focus on outcomes and better address social isolation.
