Simon Stevens’ recent maiden speech as Chief Executive of NHS England was received positively. In it, he reminded us of his familiarity with the machinations of the NHS but also humble acceptance of the challenges that lie ahead.
Staff survey infographic
NHS Employers and Picker Europe have produced an expanded infographic looking at trends in staff survey key findings between 2011 and 2013. The infographic is intended as a visual illustration of the data, rather than an analytical commentary and shows scores for comparable questions from 2011 and 2013. It illustrates the progress that has been made in key areas, as well as the challenges facing the NHS.

CQC mental health and community health services inspections
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published the first reports from its new programme of mental health and community health services inspections. CQC has published reports on: Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust; Devon Partnership NHS Trust; Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust; and Central Essex Community Services. The inspections involved significantly larger inspection teams than CQC has used in the past and looked at a wider range of services.

NICE Evidence Update: Interventions to reduce substance misuse among vulnerable young people
NICE has published a new evidence update Interventions to reduce substance misuse among vulnerable young people (Evidence Update 56). This Evidence Update provides a summary of selected new evidence published since the literature search was last conducted for NICE Public Health Guidance 4 ‘Interventions to reduce substance misuse among vulnerable young people’ (2007). Evidence Updates are intended to increase awareness of new evidence they do not replace current NICE guidance and do not provide formal practice recommendations
Sexual and reproductive health evidence summaries
Public Health England has published a package of new resources providing the latest evidence on the impact and economics of opportunistic chlamydia screening, and HIV screening and testing. The topics were selected given their priority as key sexual health indicators within the ‘Public Health Outcomes Framework’, which local areas are now delivering against. For both subjects, PHE has produced evidence summaries and leaders’ briefings.
