Most patient in critical care including coronary care and HDU will have some form of monitoring. This can take the form of heart rate monitoring, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and more involved studies. This allows the nurses and doctors to observe what is going on with the patient and whether any therapies have been effective. These monitors have lights and alarms which alert the staff to any changes. We will be observing them and acting on any changes. As the patient improves the monitoring will be reduced and eventually discontinued.
